I decided this weeks random thought would be to address the reason for the alias I have chosen to use.
Acrid was my first XBOX gamertag (gamertag = name consisting of letters, numbers, and symbols used to identify a user of the XBOX Live service……definition courtesy of myself).
I never knew what the word meant before I decided to use it as my identification online, I had just liked the way it sounded and decided to stick with it.
Later I found out that the word actually had a valid meaning.
ac-rid: [ak-rid] adjective :
| 1. | sharp or biting to the taste or smell; bitterly pungent; irritating to the eyes, nose, etc.: acrid smoke from burning rubber. |
| 2. | extremely or sharply stinging or bitter; exceedingly caustic: acrid remarks. |
Sadly at the time this definition fit who I was very well, as I was a very vulgar person with a hatred for many people around me. (Even though I was a Christian at the time, I had strayed from my walk with Christ and had essentially turned my back on God and truthfully didn’t care too much at the time about being a Christian)
At this point in my life though, this definition has taken on new meaning, since I have rededicated my life to walking with the Lord I have been able to take this word and change it around. At this point in my life I am still an acrid individual, but not in the way i used to be. Now I see everything that I do as being incredibly acrid in the eyes of Satan.
I am a Soldier of God, fighting for that which is worth having, and for that which is worth sharing with others, and that is the eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour. The Son of God himself sent to die a brutal death in order to pay for the sins of the world that I might live forever in Heaven with the God who created all things and in in control of all things, the ONE AND ONLY GOD.
As for the blog being titled as such, well…not everything I say is going to be agreed with, and I don’t expect everybody to appreciate my opinions on things, so you might find yourself peeved and perturbed with my overall point of view (which is fine with me).
So there you have it, the origins of Acrid.

I was one of the many people nation wide last night who attended the midnight release party for Halo 3 at my local Gamestop store.
While waiting in line, just before midnight’s first toll, I observed a tragedy which deeply spoke to my soul and my my spirit cry out in anguish.
I stood in line and heard a man crying out his gamertag to the masses assembled there in line. He was promoting the use of alcohol and marijuana during the playing of video games. He walked the line with his video camera and his son at his side. He was using multiple expletives directed in general and specifically at people, not meant in a hateful way, but all in jest (as if that somehow fixes the fact that his language was so extremely vulgar).
He kept walking the line saying he was going to kick back, play Halo 3, all while drinking beer and “gettin high”.
This itself was vulgar enough, but it is not what it is that broke my heart to see.
As I stated previously, this man was walking the line with his son.
*shudders*
Ladies and gentlemen, the son of this man was no older than 10……his father was even making jokes about him not being allowed to smoke pot until he is 18.
This whole situation worries me, what exactly are parents teaching their kids, it doesn’t sound like very good values at all to me. My heart aches at seeing such dereliction of duty as a parent (or just poor parenting overall). This child is growing up thinking it is okay to break the law, smoke pot, and drink in excess in the name of having a good time.
I fear for the future of this nation if this becomes the norm more than the exception.
Pray for your nation…….or else all is lost.

I just wanted to share something this week, my favorite scripture from the New Testament.
In my mind this is some of the most encouraging stuff you could find in all of the Bible (remember this is just my opinion and I am not saying this is THE most encouraging thing, I am just saying it has helped me through many a hard time in my life).
Romans 8:35-39
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
All I find in this scripture is hope.
I have nothing more to say.

YAY, It’s finally Friday!!! Time for a new fractal for my audience.
I call it angel simply because that is what I saw while making it, I also see a seashell across the top of the image and somebody once told me it looks like light shining off of a rock.
Enjoy, and as usual you can view the fullsize image here and the rest of my gallery.

I walked into a restroom stall here in college the other day and began reading the walls while using the restroom.
I saw a particular piece of “Stall Literature” which brought about a quite interesting string of thought.
I wont’ quote it due to vulgar language used in the question that was written, but the proposed question on the stall side basically read, “Why do so many people take pens with them to the restroom.” Now, in college such a thing is understandable (and something that I do anyway), as most people carry pens in their pockets at all times. But not everything written in the bathroom stalls is written in pen. Sometimes things are written in sharpie, highlighter, or even carved into the walls, floor, or toilet paper dispensers.
I truly don’t think the questions should be about why people carry writing instruments with them into the restroom, but what comes over people to write things in the restroom stalls? Some things written, much like the question I read, are very light-hearted elements of thought, but for the most part this is not what you see inside of restroom stalls. Most of the time you read the most hateful and targeted words. From simple expletives, to offers of “close encounters of the perverted kind”, to gang signs and other instances of targeted hatred against specific persons or groups of people.
Why are people so angry at others in the restroom? and why on earth are homosexuals eliciting themselves in the restroom?
Restrooms are supposed to be places of cleansing for people. Men and women both go there to relieve themselves of their intestinal burdens, and usually I could imagine that the last thing you need during your time of self-help is somebody yelling at you, cursing your name/heritage, putting disturbing images in your head, or warning you about the camera in the vent above your head.
I propose a change!
From now on, if you ever have an urge to write something or carve something into a bathroom stall….make your words something of value…..maybe a famous motivational quote…..or simply words of encouragement.
Examples: “Have A Wonderful Day”, “Jesus Loves You”, “Don’t Quit”, “You Can Do It”
You could also offer them advice on life.
Examples: “Try Deep Breathing”, “Ever thought about trying Yoga?”
I am convinced that if we change the messages that are placed in bathroom stalls to positive things, restrooms will become better places as well as places from which people leave changed……or at least less bloated.

I know I said that on Mondays I would post about something Biblical/religious/spiritual, but unfortunately I was just swamped with stuff I had to take care of yesterday and really had no free time until I went to bed.
I will still post tomorrow with the wacky/oddball topic.
Just wanted to apologize for missing yesterdays post.

Well, this is the first of what will hopefully become a regular Friday post in which I will post a piece of art I created.
Most of the time I will be posting fractal art.
Definition of a fractal: In colloquial usage, a fractal is “a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be subdivided in parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole”.
That’s just a basic definition of a fractal, but if you search wikipedia you can find a good number of great examples of just what fractal art looks like.
All the fractals I make are made using a program called Apophysis, which is a piece of software made just for the creation of fractals. (There are other fractal creating programs out there but I don’t use any of them…..yet)

I decided to call this particular piece whisper…..I can’t exactly remember why, but I think it had to do with something I saw in a movie once.
You can find the full size version here in my DeviantArt gallery.
Hope you enjoy

Alright, I guess it’s time that this blog kicks off.
I will probably start regular posting this Friday (September 14) and will hopefully be able to regularly post 3-4 times a week.
Monday will be somewhat of a topical post, usually about something scriptural or Christian themed/based.
Wednesday will probably be some sort of wacky topic.
Friday I will probably be a day for my artwork, a new piece posted every week for your enjoyment (hopefully).
So that’s how I plan on running things around here and I look forward to everybody’s comments on my blog postings.
