I was one of the many people nation wide last night who attended the midnight release party for Halo 3 at my local Gamestop store.
While waiting in line, just before midnight’s first toll, I observed a tragedy which deeply spoke to my soul and my my spirit cry out in anguish.
I stood in line and heard a man crying out his gamertag to the masses assembled there in line. He was promoting the use of alcohol and marijuana during the playing of video games. He walked the line with his video camera and his son at his side. He was using multiple expletives directed in general and specifically at people, not meant in a hateful way, but all in jest (as if that somehow fixes the fact that his language was so extremely vulgar).
He kept walking the line saying he was going to kick back, play Halo 3, all while drinking beer and “gettin high”.
This itself was vulgar enough, but it is not what it is that broke my heart to see.
AsĀ I stated previously, this man was walking the line with his son.
*shudders*
Ladies and gentlemen, the son of this man was no older than 10……his father was even making jokes about him not being allowed to smoke pot until he is 18.
This whole situation worries me, what exactly are parents teaching their kids, it doesn’t sound like very good values at all to me. My heart aches at seeing such dereliction of duty as a parent (or just poor parenting overall). This child is growing up thinking it is okay to break the law, smoke pot, and drink in excess in the name of having a good time.
I fear for the future of this nation if this becomes the norm more than the exception.
Pray for your nation…….or else all is lost.
-God Bless-

I totally feel you on this one. It’s bad enough when you can’t play a single online game without running into “ChronicHead420″ and “MastaChiefBlazer”. I think this type of things with parents not passing on good judgement and values to their children happens in waves. If one generation feels as though their parents were “hard on them” then they react quite the opposite to their own spawn. The fact that many parents won’t say “no” to their children speaks volumes to the issue. Our nation certainly needs our prayers.
Comment by Adam September 25, 2007 @ 5:17 pmWhat is so horrible about smoking pot? Yeah the father was out of line, but really the only thing horrible about pot is the fact its illegal.
Comment by thegeekgirl September 25, 2007 @ 5:27 pmHow many more reasons does it need?
Comment by Adam September 26, 2007 @ 12:24 pmHow about the fact that it shouldn’t be illegal? Not only for medical reasons but becuase it would be easier to regulate and control the use of it if it was legal.
Just becuase something is law, doesn’t mean the law is right.

You have a point with this, but tell me this, is it right that the law prevents minors from being able to purchase weapons? What about the law regarding drunk drivers? I would argue both laws are right, but that doesn’t mean everybody agrees with me. A 17 year old who really wants a gun would say the gun law is wrong, while an alcoholic in denial would tell you that he can drive just fine when he is drunk. The reason these laws are in effect is to protect the majority from the stupid. Some 17 year olds are mature enough to handle a gun safely and be responsible with a deadly weapon, while some drunks are responsible enough to know when they are too drunk to drive safely. But the law is in place to protect innocent people from kids who have no common sense when it comes to owning and operating firearms, as well as innocent men, women, and children from the irresponsible drunkards. On the issue of marijuana, there are many problems with the drug that causes it to be viewed as a dangerous drug to use. Not everybody freaks out and hallucinates when they use marijuana, but those that do are a danger to themselves as well as to anybody they come in contact with. I actually know somebody who had a relapse years after being on marijuana and nearly killed his daughter while trying to shoot “the demons he heard crawling around in the walls” of his home. He had stopped using marijuana completely, yet all these years later the damage to his brain nearly destroyed that which he holds so dearly.
The laws on drugs are in place for a very good reason, like it or not the use of marijuana is illegal and I do not think it is something that a father should be encouraging his son to do.
Also, based on your argument, should Acid, PCP, LSD, Ice, Cocaine, Crystal Meth, and Heroin be legal?
Comment by SOG Acrid September 26, 2007 @ 9:16 pmDo you realize that no one would be able to “control” the sale of pot? It’s not like it’s tough to grow the stuff, it is, essentially, a weed. I’d like to hear a few reasons to why marijuana should be legalized besides the sheep reasoning of “if it’s just made legal, no one would be breaking the law!”
