New Introduction

I have never truly introduced myself, and since I am required to do so for a blog entry for my class I decided it was the perfect time.

Name: Ryan

Location: Texas (and may God Bless it)

Occupation: Student majoring in Education

I am who I am. I am a Christian, my highest priority is following the guidance of God and maintaining a relationship with Him. I am currently in love with the woman I plan on marrying. She is truly a gift of God on my life and has been nothing but a blessing to me. I love books, mostly fiction, but I do enjoy nonfiction as well. One of my favorite authors is Stephen Lawhead, I find his writing fantastic and love his Celtic & Middle Age themes, as some of my favorite fiction is good ole’ Medieval settings. One of my life-long hobbies is video games, I have always played them and will probably continue to play them for many years. I am currently involved in a gaming community called the Hardcore Christian Gamer Association. I am also currently teaching myself to play acoustic guitar, and I know one day I will be a great guitarist, even if no fame comes of it, it is something I wish to do. I want to be a Special Education teacher. I absolutely love kids, and prefer being around them and teaching them as opposed to sitting on my butt crunching numbers, or sitting behind a computer day after day. I plan on having many children of my own and look forward to one day becoming a husband and father and having a family.

God has given me great hopes for the future I have. I do not know what all He has in store for me, all I know is the desires that have found their ways into my heart. One of the greatest of these was originally a single idea, and I must say that it was not originally something I came up with, but the idea of the woman I love. She has dreamed of one day opening a very large, Christian based orphanage in the northern parts of India. Ever since then, this dream of hers has grown into an even larger dream that we both share. Someday, we will not only have this orphanage opened in India, but we will have an entire chain of orphanages around the world, in locations such as Mexico, Israel, China, Russia, Africa, South America. It is our dream, and we have great faith that God will allow us to see this dream come true.

All in all, I would say that all that you have just read is a look at me, my hobbies, and my dreams.

Hope you have found something interesting about me and I hope you come back and read more sometime.

-God Bless-

Ladies and Gentlemen,

a.k.a. the very few of you who have actually read any of my blog posts…..

I AM BACK.

After an absence caused by the pressures of semester finals and the vacation I refer to as Christmas, I have decided to return.

As you can see the blog has a new header design courtesy of a friend of mine from the Hardcore Christian Gamer Association Forums (www.christian-gaming.com Come and check it out).

Also I am going to be adding new stuff to my posting routine.

I am now planning on continuing the things I had originally bu also adding to it some video game reviews and news depending on what I think I want to talk about. Also to be added are some posts having to do with my World Civilizations class I am taking this semester. (How cool is that? We are ASSIGNED to do a blog as part of our regular work……amazing!!)

So anyway, glad to be back and hopefully from here things will be better than before.

Catch You Soon,

Executive Decision

I have decided I am going to change my blog post days to Tuesday and Thursday with artwork on either Friday or Saturday.

This decision is being made simply because I have more free time to be able to post on the above mentioned days which will allow me to give the blog posts my full attention instead of trying to rush to put something up, unable to give complete thought to what I am writing.

Sorry for any slight inconvenience to you, but I can guarantee it’s for the best.

What’s In A Name???
September 26, 2007, 9:36 pm

I decided this weeks random thought would be to address the reason for the alias I have chosen to use.

Acrid was my first XBOX gamertag (gamertag = name consisting of letters, numbers, and symbols used to identify a user of the XBOX Live service……definition courtesy of myself).

I never knew what the word meant before I decided to use it as my identification online, I had just liked the way it sounded and decided to stick with it.

Later I found out that the word actually had a valid meaning.

ac-rid: [ak-rid] adjective :

1. sharp or biting to the taste or smell; bitterly pungent; irritating to the eyes, nose, etc.: acrid smoke from burning rubber.
2. extremely or sharply stinging or bitter; exceedingly caustic: acrid remarks.

Sadly at the time this definition fit who I was very well, as I was a very vulgar person with a hatred for many people around me. (Even though I was a Christian at the time, I had strayed from my walk with Christ and had essentially turned my back on God and truthfully didn’t care too much at the time about being a Christian)

At this point in my life though, this definition has taken on new meaning, since I have rededicated my life to walking with the Lord I have been able to take this word and change it around. At this point in my life I am still an acrid individual, but not in the way i used to be. Now I see everything that I do as being incredibly acrid in the eyes of Satan.

I am a Soldier of God, fighting for that which is worth having, and for that which is worth sharing with others, and that is the eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Saviour. The Son of God himself sent to die a brutal death in order to pay for the sins of the world that I might live forever in Heaven with the God who created all things and in in control of all things, the ONE AND ONLY GOD.

As for the blog being titled as such, well…not everything I say is going to be agreed with, and I don’t expect everybody to appreciate my opinions on things, so you might find yourself peeved and perturbed with my overall point of view (which is fine with me).

So there you have it, the origins of Acrid.

Sincere Tragedy
September 25, 2007, 3:17 pm

I was one of the many people nation wide last night who attended the midnight release party for Halo 3 at my local Gamestop store.

While waiting in line, just before midnight’s first toll, I observed a tragedy which deeply spoke to my soul and my my spirit cry out in anguish.

I stood in line and heard a man crying out his gamertag to the masses assembled there in line. He was promoting the use of alcohol and marijuana during the playing of video games. He walked the line with his video camera and his son at his side. He was using multiple expletives directed in general and specifically at people, not meant in a hateful way, but all in jest (as if that somehow fixes the fact that his language was so extremely vulgar).

He kept walking the line saying he was going to kick back, play Halo 3, all while drinking beer and “gettin high”.

This itself was vulgar enough, but it is not what it is that broke my heart to see.

AsĀ  I stated previously, this man was walking the line with his son.

*shudders*

Ladies and gentlemen, the son of this man was no older than 10……his father was even making jokes about him not being allowed to smoke pot until he is 18.

This whole situation worries me, what exactly are parents teaching their kids, it doesn’t sound like very good values at all to me. My heart aches at seeing such dereliction of duty as a parent (or just poor parenting overall). This child is growing up thinking it is okay to break the law, smoke pot, and drink in excess in the name of having a good time.

I fear for the future of this nation if this becomes the norm more than the exception.

Pray for your nation…….or else all is lost.

I know I said that on Mondays I would post about something Biblical/religious/spiritual, but unfortunately I was just swamped with stuff I had to take care of yesterday and really had no free time until I went to bed.

I will still post tomorrow with the wacky/oddball topic.

Just wanted to apologize for missing yesterdays post.

Operating Procedures

Alright, I guess it’s time that this blog kicks off.

I will probably start regular posting this Friday (September 14) and will hopefully be able to regularly post 3-4 times a week.

Monday will be somewhat of a topical post, usually about something scriptural or Christian themed/based.

Wednesday will probably be some sort of wacky topic.

Friday I will probably be a day for my artwork, a new piece posted every week for your enjoyment (hopefully).

So that’s how I plan on running things around here and I look forward to everybody’s comments on my blog postings.
